PROFILE Mr. Masahiro Osaka is a partner at Miyoshi & Miyoshi, and practices in the firm's Patent Department. He has experience in preparation and prosecution before the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) of patent applications in a wide range of technologies including semiconductor devices, telecommunications, computer software, e-commerce, business methods and Internet-related technologies. After receiving his degree in electronics from Hosei University in 1990, Mr.Osaka joined Digital Equipment Corporation Japan as a system engineer. He went on to work in the field of system design for various leading process industry companies. He designed a variety of application software based on his analysis of customer’s systems including process control systems, network systems and system integration. Mr. Osaka joined Miyoshi & Miyoshi in 1993 as a law clerk and gained experience in the preparation and prosecution of Japanese patent applications. Mr. Osaka was registered as a Japanese patent attorney in 1996. After that, he was assigned as a trainee to Foley & Lardner in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2000, where he gained expertise in U.S. Intellectual Property Law and U.S. patent prosecution. He often meets with U.S. attorneys and works as a mediator between them and Japanese clients regarding U.S. patent applications, and has successfully obtained U.S. patents for many clients. Mr. Osaka enjoys tennis, swimming, golf, and skiing on weekends.
